Owner Mario Schiopu, who moved to the Bay Area from New York in the late 1980s, has a history in food service. He has owned a catering business since 1992 and used to own an upscale restaurant in Fremont that he sold in recent years, hoping to find an opportunity for a more family friendly place.

"I've always had this thing to do family style, type of thing," Schiopu said. "I didn't want to have a stuffy atmosphere."
